Disney has officially announced Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland will open in summer of 2019. The Disney World version of it, meanwhile, will open just a few months after in the fall. Unlike past efforts to incorporate the franchise into Disney’s parks, Galaxy’s Edge promises to be more than just a single ride or a themed section. It will be an immersive world – a “living adventure” as they call it – complete with hotels, restaurants, and of course, rides based on Star Wars.
To be more specific, Galaxy’s Edge will be set on an outer rim planet called Batuu, where food stands and shops are inhabited by aliens, and visitors are caught in fierce battles between the Resistance and the First Order. As for the rides, Disney is making each attraction interactive, just like in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For example, there will be repercussions – good or bad – depending on how you fly the Millennium Falcon. At 14-acres, Galaxy’s Edge will be the largest themed expansion in Disney’s history.
